As the demand for electronic devices has been increasing steadily, then on the other hand the importance of security of these devices also rises. For instance, the technological advancements in semiconductor manufacturing have brought out several benefits for the users. But at the same time, these advancements also tend to create a huge opportunity for cybercriminals to target vulnerabilities and launch cyberattacks.

During the daily monitoring of deepweb and darkweb, our researchers identified a leak disclosure post in which Maze ransomware claimed to have breached SK Hynix and in possession of the company’s sensitive data. Currently, the ransomware operators only tend to publish 5% of the total company’s data leak.

Founded in the year 1983 as Hyundai Electric Industry than in the year 2001 as Hynix semiconductors and finally in the year 2012 as SK Hynix. Currently, SK Hynix is the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker and the world’s third-largest semiconductor with over 22,000 employees and earning annual revenue of around $35.27 billion.

The Cyble Research Team identified and analyzed the data leak of around 630 MB. The data leak includes sensitive corporate operational documents such as the company’s internal email conversations, administrative committee meeting minutes documents, service agreements, orders shipment invoices, legal juridical documents, and much more. Below are snapshots of the data leak being released by Maze ransomware operators-:

Tips on how to prevent ransomware attacks –

  • Never click on unverified/unidentified links
  • Do not open untrusted email attachments
  • Only download from sites you trust
  • Never use unfamiliar USBs
  • Use security software and keep it updated
  • Backup your data periodically
  • Isolate the infected system from the network
