Allison-Smith Company LLC Allegedly Breached by REvil Ransomware Operators

Organizations of all sizes, in virtually every industry on earth, were hit by cyberattacks. From shipping giant Maersk to the ride-sharing giant Uber, all the way to Equifax, a credit rating agency regarded as one of the largest holders of private customer data in the world.

Recently, during the continuous monitoring of deepweb and darkweb, the Cyble Research Team came across a disclosure post in which REvil ransomware operators claimed to have breached Allison-Smith Company LLC – a leader in the South’s electrical contracting and engineering industry for over 70 years. With around 500 employees the company has been earning annual revenue of around $158.53 million.

The REvil ransomware operators have claimed the attack through the message posted on their online blog-:

REvil have also shared a few screenshots to support their claim in which you can spot data folders and documents such as electrical commercial permits, certificates of liability insurance, accounting data folders, company’s projects data, and much more. Below are the snapshots of the sample of the data leak of Allison-Smith Company LLC.

REvil claims this to be a small part of the total data leak, and have threatened the company to publish their entire data leak if Allison-Smith fails to contact them.

Tips on how to prevent ransomware attacks –

  • Never click on unverified/unidentified links
  • Do not open untrusted email attachments
  • Only download from sites you trust
  • Never use unfamiliar USBs
  • Use security software and keep it updated
  • Backup your data periodically
  • Isolate the infected system from the network
  • Use mail server content scanning and filtering

It is recommended to follow above mentioned prevention methods and never pay the ransom.
