An individual comes across something new whenever he/she accesses the darkweb. Researchers of Cyble are accustomed to such experience. Recently, when our researchers were performing their regular deepweb and darkweb sweeps, they came across a post in which a credible actor has claimed to be in possession of 2.3 million user records of a well-known news provider – Star Tribune.

Star Tribune is the largest newspaper in Minnesota. It originated as the Minneapolis Tribune in 1867 and the competing Minneapolis Daily Star in 1920. Journalists from the Star Tribune and its predecessor newspapers have won many Pulitzer Prizes. The newspaper’s headquarters is in downtown Minneapolis

The leaked database includes the following fields:

  • Usernames and Passwords
  • Email addresses
  • Names
  • Physical addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Gender
Star Tribune

Cyble has acquired the leaked data and it appears the data is legitimate. To inform the broader community about the threat, Cyble has indexed the data on their data breach monitoring and notification platform, AmiBreached.com – people who’re concerned about their information exposure can register on the platform to ascertain the risks.
