Here, the United States experienced the highest number of attacks from ransomware groups and other threat actors, followed closely by the Government, Law Enforcement Agencies, and Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance sectors in India, which were the next most targeted.

More than 30 new ransomware groups emerged in 2023. Newly emerged ransomware groups such as 8Base – a variant of Phobos ransomware – and Akira – from the shadows of Conti – emerged to be among the 10 most active ransomware groups.

The reports also highlight that the most prevalent attack vectors employed by ransomware groups continued to be compromised access through Stealer Logs, Social Engineering, and Phishing. Additionally, there was a notable uptick in the use of AI for crafting highly sophisticated targeted reconnaissance campaigns.
